We read about how Nick Carraway moved for a fresh start in bonding and how he feels about people; Gatsby being the only decent person he's met. Nick talks about how he hardly knows the Tom Buchanans and just talks about how they're friends. The beginning of the book uses a lot of foreshadowing for what's to come later in the book.
